dear santa:

dear santa:
I really need some boy toys for in here...
i've been really good.
love, Hendrix

I have to admit that I really don't like these 'dad rocks' shirts on 90% of the population. but since in our case it's true... :) they should only sell them to babies whose dad is actually in a band, don't you think?

sorry all of you whose kids are sporting 'rocks' shirts. dave can give your husbands a guitar lesson.

why?

Quinn has started asking "Why" for EVERYTHING that happens all day. Here is an example of one of our conversations lately:

Me to Dave as he walks up the stairs carrying some clean laundry: thanks!
Quinn: What mom?
Me: I just said thanks to daddy for carrying the clothes upstairs
Quinn: Why
Me: Because he brought the clothes upstairs for me
Quinn: Why?
Me: Because I washed them
Quinn: Why?
Me: Because they were dirty and we like to wear clean clothes
Quinn: Why?
Me: Because it's just more comfortable to wear clean clothes
Quinn: Why?
Me: um.... I don't know Quinn. go ask dad

I can tell you one thing... I am going to get VERY smart having to think through the reason for everything that happens in life.

8 months

Hendrix is 8 months old!!!

Here's what the big man has been up to:

  • TWO TEETH!! (he just got #2 yesterday)

  • has been sleeping through the night for the last two weeks (from 6:30-5 or so...)

  • can pull himself up to stand

  • says "ba"

  • can pick up food with his index finger and thumb... and LOVES it

  • is happy and sweet and giggles a lot

  • still drools like a faucet

  • notices and PROTESTS if he sees me walk away from him

  • wears 12 month size clothes

  • Dave guesses that he weighs 22 pounds??

he can't help himself but to be fascinated by the Christmas tree.

Quinn was showing me with her fingers how many eight was. She was close :)

thanksgiving

We had a nice Thanksgiving at home this year. Grandma and Grandpa Keller came to spend the day with us. Quinn kept them VERY busy reading books, coloring, and playing with play doh. Here's a few pictures from our day!!

Quinn eating pumpkin pie for breakfast. a long time Stevens-tradition. Thanks for teaching me well, mom and dad :)

Quinn sneaking more olives.

"What?"

don't ask me what I'm doing in this picture. ha... but it's me with my beautiful turkey

Quinn playing with her potatoes like play doh

just a cute face

a picture of grandma and Hendrix. he was here this weekend too!

grandpa coloring with quinn

quinn read grandma LOTS of books. I would fall asleep after this many books too.... but I think cheryl only lasted through maybe 5?? :)

after grandma taking a little nap, Quinn learned how to snore. haha... sorry cheryl. Cheryl did NOT sound like this, but it is VERY funny to hear her impression.

I'm thankful for...

I'm thankful for my family. I am so lucky.

I'm thankful for chocolate... for obvious reasons. I would honestly not survive without it.

I'm thankful for the "terrible two's" that we are experiencing with Quinn. I'm thankful for the things that I'm learning from it. I'm thankful for the great moments I have with her when she's NOT throwing a tantrum, screaming, refusing to sleep, refusing to eat, and kicking her arms and legs on the floor.

I'm thankful for stickers. Without them, Quinn wouldn't make it through church or long afternoons when we stay home all day.

I'm also thankful for books and the hours and HOURS of quality entertainment they provide for Quinn every day.

I'm thankful for my mom. for more reasons that I could list. I love you mom.

I'm thankful that my kids have the most amazing daddy. He is the best. They love him more than ever. I'm thankful that he comes home every day ready and willing to help me with whatever I need. i couldn't ask for more. love you, daddy.

I'm thankful for my sewing machine. I know that sounds silly. But I love to sew, and I feel lucky to have a decent machine that lets me create things. and I'm thankful for a two-year-old who truly loves EVERYTHING I sew. It's cute.

I'm thankful for Rocket. I'm thankful for a diligent husband who has never given up trying to support our family. I'm thankful for Brian and the partnership that has made my husband excited to do his job everyday. blast off.

I'm thankful that Dave is not only a great dad, but a GREAT husband as well. Dave appreciates all I do, and never lets me doubt how much he loves me. He also buys me chocolate and tells me I'm beautiful... which is awesome.

I'm also thankful for this little guy. For the peace and joy and happiness he brings to our home

I'm also thankful for all of you who look at my little blog every day. Thanks for caring what we're up to. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hendrix the stud

just a couple of pictures of Hendrix from Sunday. He looked so cute in his outfit, but I didn't manage to get a great photo. sorry... but he looks handsome anyway

hendrix with his hair down.

quinn having a 'ball' in her ball pit

hendrix has discovered Quinn's 'bike' and LOVES it. not that you can tell by this picture. but he pulls himself up on it all day, which is a little dangerous. (he can't get himself ON it... he just pulls himself up to stand by it)

that's what it's all about

quinn singing the hokey pokey

x laughing

Hendrix laughing at Daddy kicking balls back into the ball pit

Quinn and Hendrix

this is just a cute video of Quinn talking to Hendrix. she's great :)

letter puzzle

You are all going to sick of seeing what I've been sewing! This is what I finished today. (also a present for Quinn. Remember the Christmas countdown I made last year?? I put a present in it every day, so I need to have some stuff ready!)
a letter puzzle

she can keep the letters in the bag so they don't get lost (but let's face it, she'll still lose some)

and the bag velcros onto the puzzle

and it folds in half and rolls up

and sorry. i don't have a tutorial link because i made it up myself. which is why it has lots of character :)

Simba

Quinn has been in love with her sock monkey, Simba lately. She sleeps with her and reads her books ALL day. It's super cute. Simba has received so much love she has even had to have a couple surgeries lately (repairs to the seams that have popped open). Quinn lovingly pretends to give her medicine and tell her "it's okay, it's just a little pokey" while I'm sewing her up.

And just so you know, Simba is, in fact, a girl. I had to ask Quinn the other day if it was a boy or a girl. She told me (like it was obvious) that she's a girl. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks Simba is a boy name :)

Christmas toys

this is my last post of the day... I promise.
I didn't have to work tonight so I got some sewing done. I swear I all of a sudden have 50 projects I'm working on. Here is Hendrix's car toy that I made him for Christmas. I'll need to buy him some cars :) (if you've never seen one of these, the cars go in pockets that are along the bottom)

And, of course, I had to make Quinn one. I'll try to find little safari animals to put in her pockets.

the whole thing folds in half and rolls up. Great idea, huh? I used this tutorial

hair cut and utensils

hendrix got a haircut this afternoon.

but he was not in the mood for me to be taking pictures. he just wanted me to hold him instead.

i'm so mean sometimes....

and this is what Quinn did while I made dinner tonight.

dirty diaper

I just looked over at Quinn who was PUSHING some potty out. I looked away to give her some privacy, but kept looking back at her because of what it was sounding like behind me (just her effort and breathing...) The last time I looked back at her she says: "What mom? I do this all the time." yep... she's right. She does poop all the time.

hendrix and table runner

the fellas hanging out on the couch after church. yep--he's still at it with his tongue sticking out all the time

I love how these pictures make his hair look CrAzY. it was actually pretty cute today, but it looks silly at this angle (plus a nap..)

don't you just want to squeeze those little cheeks???

I thought it would be fun to make a Thanksgiving table runner. I thought "I don't need a pattern... I can figure it out." It turns out that I did need a pattern. ha. when I was sewing it I thought I might leave it out year-round since the colors match my kitchen even when it's not Thanksgiving. Then once I finished it, I decided it would just be a Thanksgiving one after all.

The batting is the issue. See how puffy it is? Dave said it looked nice and cozy--like he could take a nap on the table. Funny... that was actually my intention all along :)
